At the International Display Expo (UDE 2020) held at the end of last month, TCL showcased its 75" 8K MiniLED backlight TV and Mini+QLED 8K home theater TV.

Recently, it was reported that TCL has launched TVs equipped with MiniLED technology in overseas markets, and they are officially on sale.

Reports indicate that TCL has released the latest generation of 5 series and 6 series Roku TVs, with the main feature of the 6 series being the MiniLED display technology, which includes over a thousand MiniLEDs, achieving 240 zones of local dimming and supporting a 120Hz refresh rate.

In terms of pricing, the 5 series is priced at $400 for the 50-inch model, $450 for the 55-inch model, $630 for the 65-inch model, and $1100 for the 75-inch model. It is worth noting that there are reports that TCL MiniLED backlight TVs will start shipping in large quantities in the second half of this year.

According to reports from Tech News, TCL plans to increase the shipment of MiniLED backlight TVs in the second half of this year, ramping up from thousands of units per month to tens of thousands. Each backlight TV requires about 15,000 MiniLEDs, and the total number of MiniLEDs used throughout the year is expected to reach nearly 1 billion. In terms of product specifications, the products launched by TCL this year still use a passive driving scheme with a PCB backplane, with MiniLED light sources provided by Everlight and panels sourced from Huaxing Optoelectronics.

Since 2019, TCL has been heavily investing in the layout of MiniLED and Micro LED display technologies, and this year, the development of related technologies and the launch of products have been accelerating. In addition to TCL, other manufacturers in the display industry are also moving forward at full speed to help MiniLED capture more market share from OLED in the medium and large size display market.
